Power Up Your Immune System With Good Oral Care including natural toothpaste
A poor oral care routine can mean so much more than cavities and long trips to the dentist. If you regularly suffer from colds or feeling run down you might want to read on!

Your immune system is the powerhouse of your body, responsible both for preventing infection by viruses and bacteria and for fighting back against these infections when they enter your body. If you are not taking care of your mouth properly, your body’s ability to fight back against common illnesses may be compromised. Why? It makes sense if you think about it.

Your immune system can only make a certain amount of cells like antibodies and white blood cells. So if it’s working hard to defend against infections and attack bacteria in your mouth from say bleeding gums, it won’t have the same ability to do so elsewhere in your body.

Brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day Is essential for good oral care otherwise your mouth can become overwhelmed by oral bacteria. These nasty little bacteria will attack your gums, eventually causing gum disease. If your teeth regularly bleed when you brush your teeth chances are you have some form of gum disease.

In addition, they will excrete acid which can wear away at your teeth, which can cause deep cavities or even tooth infections. If your body must send immune cells to your mouth to deal with these oral health issues, it simply won’t be able to send as many immune cells to other parts of your body, weakening your overall immune response.

The good news is that it's fairly simple to create good oral care habits and improve your immune system at the same time.

Here are our top tips for twinkling healthy teeth & a healthy immune system!

 1. Brush twice a day for two minutes with a natural toothpaste. If 2 minutes feels like a lifetime pop on some music or watch a youtube video or TikTok whilst you brush! You will be done before you know it! Opt for a soft brush like this biodegradable toothbrush to avoid damaging your gums.

 2. Floss once a day – Flossing is sometimes the only way to get food out from between teeth and gums. Without flossing it will rot between your teeth and can cause bad breath and cavities.

 3. Mouthwash is no substitute for brushing and flossing, but it can kill bad bacteria and keep your breath fresh. Avoid mouthwash that contains alcohol as it can disrupt the delicate oral microbiome and actually make bad breath worse! Opt for a natural mouthwash instead.
4. Reduce your sugar intake – A healthy diet low in sugar and starches and high in vegetables, fruits, and lean meats will help keep your mouth (and body) healthy.
